Alexander Kurbsky is a compelling character. The plot was strong as the novel took on many twists and turns. Kurbsky is ostensibly the villain but he had enough valor and honor that there was always doubt when reading it that he would stay the villain, and ultimately the real villains were the Russians pulling the strings behind the scenes.

By and large this novel worked for me and I would recommend it. Carl Alves — author of Battle of the Soul May 25, Bonnie rated it liked it. This is an entertaining book, especially for those who like spy and espionage tales. It features a Russian writer with an extensive military background who claims he wants to defect to the West. The "Prime Minister's Private Army" is all set to help him, but what are his true motives? Not a book to be taken too seriously, but another glimpse, perhaps, in how Putin and other Russians operate.

Feb 18, Paul rated it liked it. I found the book started out slow, then it began to get interesting but ended quickly I understand you have to build a story but it seemed that it took a big part and then when it got intriguing it ended.

Kurbsky, still under the guise of the Russians, kills a Putin critic right before the speech and impresses Monica greatly. Continuing Moscow's plan, I almost gave this book five stars because Higgins blends in enough sex to make it interesting along with the storyline. Continuing Moscow's plan, Kurbsky is slated for commemoration by the French in Paris, after which he is snatched by Monica, Salter and Dillon. He is a master of his genre. I suspect one of my favorite aspects is that he continues characters and ages them appropriately. Additionally lead functions change and different characters are brought in and developed to the point where you look forward to seeing them again and reading more of their exploits.

All in all a most satisfying read. Third or fourth Higgins book I've read. Thought Storm Warning was very good and this was surprisingly entertaining despite the fact that I've only read one other in this series.
